August 2020—OKCAMC Awards Scholarships to Five Outstanding Aggies

21 Aug

Each year, the Oklahoma City A&M Club (OKCAMC) awards scholarships to students from our area who plan to attend, or are currently enrolled at, Texas A&M University during the subsequent fall semester.  For 2020, we are incredibly proud to announce that we are awarding scholarships to five outstanding Aggies.

Alison Duke, class of 2021, graduated from Edmond North high school in the top 5% of her class with a GPA greater than 4.0.  Today, she is a senior year at A&M, and is majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Business; she will also earn a certificate in Public Health Entomology.  Given her academic performance to date, she is on pace to graduate with high honors, magna cum laude (> 3.7 GPA).  Outside of the classroom, Alison is a member of Alpha Chi Omega, where she has held multiple leadership positions, including Vice President of Finance for Collegiate Panhellenic Council.  In addition, Alison has served the Bryan-College Station community and abroad by dedicating her time and resources to a number of organizations and charitable causes, such as the BCS Prenatal Clinic; Baylor Scott & White Helping Hands Program; and, Global Medical Brigades in Nicaragua. Post-graduation, she will enroll in a graduate program to pursue a career as a physician assistant (PA).

Ashton Cooksey, class of 2021, is a senior from Bethany, Oklahoma and a member of the Corp of Cadets, Company L-1.  Given his academic marks to date, he is on pace to graduate with honors, cum laude (>3.5 GPA) with an undergraduate degree in International Studies with a minor in Russian.  Additionally, he is enrolled in the Bush School of Government and Public Service, and will obtain a master’s degree in International Affairs with an expected graduation date of May of 2022.  Since arriving in Aggieland, Ashton has demonstrated incredible leadership by serving in various capacities:  Army ROTC, serving as 2nd in command over all freshman; Company L-1 Chaplain; Impact Retreat Counselor; and, member of the Brotherhood of Christian Aggies.  Post-graduation, Ashton will serve his country as an Officer in the U.S. Army.

Emma Banks, class of 2022, is a junior business honors accounting student from Duncan, Oklahoma.  Given her academic performance to date, she is on pace to achieve the highest of graduation honors, summa cum laude with a perfect 4.0 GPA.   Since moving to College Station, Emma has held various leadership roles, including Co-Founder of the Business Honors Pre-Law Network; Marketing Chair for the Lechner-McFadden Community Council; and Vice Chair of MSC Hospitality, the official service organization of the MSC. Furthermore, she is a President’s Endowed Scholar, an award given solely on the basis of academic achievement and demonstrated leadership.  Post-graduation, she intends to enroll into law school with a concentration in taxation.

Hannah Flores, class of 2023, is a sophomore who graduated from Edmond Memorial high school with remarkable credentials as a National AP Scholar with Distinction and as a National Hispanic Scholar.  During high school, she was a gold medalist for the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Outdoor Nationals in 2017 and a silver medalist in 2018.  Today, she showcases her talent as a member of the TAMU Archery Club, and placed 2nd nationally as a freshman for women’s indoor recurve.  In the classroom, she continues to do achieve high marks.  She is a member of the engineering honors program and is currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

Addi Duerksen, class of 2023, is a sophomore who graduated from Weatherford high school as its Valedictorian and as a National Merit Scholar.  Since moving to College Station last year, Addi has held various leadership roles, including Fish Camp Counselor, MSC Aggie Leaders of Tomorrow, and Century Singers.  In the classroom, she is majoring in Chemical Engineering  with a minor in Horticulture, which is inspired by her upbringing and family’s history of farming.  Furthermore, she is a President’s Endowed Scholar, an award given solely on the basis of academic achievement and demonstrated leadership.

As an organization, we are very proud to support the next generation of great Aggie leaders.  Notably, given the current pandemic, we were not able to raise funds by traditional means, creating a shortfall in our annual budget.  However, we did receive support from certain individuals and corporate partners to make these awards possible.  On behalf of OKCAMC, we’d like to thank all those who donated generously with their resources—it is uplifting to see Aggies supporting each other during these challenging times.

Thanks & Gig’em,

OKCAMC
